Misu Pete ran another cracking race yesterday to finish 3rd. It was a good result for the yard with Bayston Hill winning the race, though I don’t think Gary Manon was particularly clever taking Pete on early. Tom Greatrex probably gave the better ride of the two and deserves some credit for Bayston winning. Still, it’s the chance we take in apprentice races and fortune was on our side. It’s hard to know what to do with Pete now; it was his 15th race of the season but he’s better than ever, so why stop now. If we feel he is ok next week there is a mile handicap around Windsor on Monday, 22nd October and a 10 furlong Amateur race back at Nottingham on the 7th November. If he shows any signs he’s tired between now and then we won’t go, otherwise we might as well take our chance.
I hope everyone spares a thought for Black Truffle tomorrow night at Wolverhampton where the conditions might not be that pleasant! He’s got a real uphill task off his draw but he likes a challenge. At 20-1 he might be worth a pound each way.
