Well Miracle Of Medinah would have learnt an awful lot from yesterday! With no horse on his outside, he seemed to freeze at he came out of the stalls and ran very green before realising what he had to do. After being pretty much tailed off and giving the field a 20-length head start, he actually did very well to catch the field up! He should be a lot sharper on his next racecourse appearance.

No runners for us over the weekend but we are back in action on Bank Holiday Monday at Windsor with our second two-year-old debutant Harlequin Jinks.

Have a good weekend!

He is a horse I like as he has a great attitude, moves well and is plenty fast enough. Like all of mine, he will improve a lot for his first run today as he will learn so much for the experience, but is one to follow for the season though.

As for last night at Salisbury, It’s Taboo went so close to getting off the mark, as you can see from the photo below, and Spice Fair although not beaten far, hung to the left when seeing daylight. I think it is important that he is covered up completely in his races when racing amongst other horses.

We have three runners tonight at Salisbury’s evening meeting, with It’s Taboo and Jinks And Co both running in the fillies maiden at 7.15. It is great to finally have Jinks And Co on the track as she was a showing all the right signs as a two-year-old before getting injured. She has grown and strengthen up a lot, but will no doubt be very green on her racecourse debut tonight, so I hope she learns plenty for the experience. As for It’s Taboo we are sticking with the maiden route as I feel she is capable of winning one. She is a very consistent filly and will most probably be in the mix again tonight, so is worth some each-way support.

Spice Fair runs in the 7.45 at Salisbury, and looks to have come on physically and fitness wise since his run over course and distance 18 days ago. He has run well before at this track and if there is a good pace in this 8-runner race, he should have an each-way chance here. He needs plenty of cover and producing late, but he seems as if he still retains all of his old abilty.

It was fanstastic to see Honourable Knight win on the turf yesterday. When he gets into a battle he really sticks his neck out to the line. Although not being entirely sure about the course, he has now won on both the turf and the all-weather track at Lingfield from two starts.

As for the others, Ridgeway Hawk was again unlucky not to get his head in front but showed tremendous determination to get so close, seeing he had to race wide and play catch up throughout. He is a trier though! Katmai River didn’t get a good early position but didn’t really seem to enjoy the surface either, so we will have to wait for some easy turf for him now.

Direct Trade ran a very pleasing first race back, before getting tired and perhaps a shade outpaced in the closing stages. She will come on plenty for that and perhaps a step up to 7f will suit. Noor Al Haya didn’t follow up last week’s win but ran ok in the end, as they went a hell of a clip and there were a fair few well handicapped horses in the race, but the market certainly knew about the winner! She might also just prefer turf to the all-weather.

One runner tomorrow at Goodwood, our first 2-year-old runner of the season, Miracle Of Medinah.

A busy day by our standards with five runners at three different courses.

Katmai River starts things off in the 3.20 at Southwell. The surface(fibresand) is a bit of an unknown, as he has only run on it once when he was younger. As he enjoys slow-turf, there is no reason to suggest why he won’t act on it. If he can get a good start and kick-on from the front, I think he could have an each-way squeak here. I have replaced the visor with cheekpieces and Emily also takes off a handy 7lbs. Her record when riding him is 283.

Ridgeway Hawk runs in 5.20 there and is fairly capable of going well in this, but it all hinges on his start. He can get very far behind before flying home, so hopefully he can be in the mix but his finishing position will depend on his start.

Over at Lingfield, Honourable Knight runs in the 3.30 on turf. He ran a complete stinker last time, but is known to do that, so it is probably best to forget that run. He has usually followed up with a decent run after a bad one, though he has a few factors to overcome today, as he hasn’t won on turf since his maiden win at two. I am also not entirely sure if the track will suit him, but as long as he is travelling and not being bustled along down the hill, he might be worth a little bit of each-way support.

Direct Trade runs in the 4.30 on the all-weather there. With all my runners seeming to need there first run back, she will probably improve a lot for the run today, but it will be interesting to see how she does now she has strengthed up, but will no doubt improve massivley for the run.

Our last runner of the day, Noor Al Haya looks to follow up her recent win in the 9.00 at Kempton. She is well and is set to run another good race, but in punting terms, there are a lot of unknowns in the race making their handicap debuts, so there may be a few lurking below the radar. I hope she runs another solid race with Daniel Muscutt claiming 7lbs off of her back again.

Hopefully there’s a winner in there somewhere! Three runners tomorrow at Salisbury: Jinks And Co, It’s Taboo and Spice Fair.

With The Epsom Derby only 12 days away, it is time to start thinking about the contenders for this year’s Classic. Unfortunatley the quality of the field seems a little bit light this year, with the only standout being Dawn Approach who is untried at further than a mile but remains unbeaten. All the reports at the moment are about Sir Michael Stoute’s Telescope. Although he missed his intended trial in the Dante Stakes at York, reports coming out of Newmarket suggest he is the real-deal and if anyone should know it is Sir Michael Stoute, but to go into the Derby without a prep-run can hardily be ideal.

As for us, we are back in action with 5 runners on Wednesday: Katmai River and Ridgeway Hawk at Southwell, Honourable Knight and Direct Trade at Lingfield and Noor Al Haya at Kempton.

I will update you then on their chances.

Our last runner was a winner, which was encouraging, and the horses seem to be in good form. A lot of the horses who have had their first run back will come on an awful lot for the run and would look to get more competitive when next on the track.

As for the big Dettori news this week, I think it is utter shambles between the French and British racing authorities that they can not sort out Frankie Dettori’s licence for Monday, where he has a full book of rides as expected. It is a big deal for our sport having him back and it seems a bit of a joke. Don’t they work weekends?

I hope you all have a good weekend.

Noor Al Haya makes her handicap debut in the 7.40 at Bath tonight. There has been plenty of rain so the firm has been completely taken out of the ground and it will probably be riding on the easy side of good, which I think will suit her. With Daniel Muscutt taking a further 7lbs off her back, she’ll be carrying the weight of a postage stamp. As she has had her first start back already this season, I would be a shade disappointed if she couldn’t get competitive off this mark, but we’ll have to see. She would be worth a little bit of each-way support at big odds.

At a very wet Chepstow last night I was pleased with My Sweet Lord who finished third. He will obviously improve for that first run and it also gives us to option to run on easy turf if our summer is similar to last year.

Tonight My Sweet Lord runs in the 7.05 at Chepstow. He has had a good few months off and has returned in good heart. Obviously he is facing a new challenge today as he is tackling the new trip of 5 furlongs, but I think it will suit as it is a stiff 5 at Chepstow. One of the slighty worries is that it is meant to rain a lot today which could turn the ground soft and in Chepstow’s case, heavy. Whatever happens today, he will improve for the run.

As for the two yesterday, I was quite pleased with both Ishi Honest and Haatefina, the jockeys’ were happy with them and just felt they got tired in the last furlong, so they should both come on massivley for the run.

Ishi Honest makes her seasonal reappearance in the 3.25 at Wolverhampton. She has had a long break, has wintered well and seems well enough in herself at home. It is her first start on the all-weather, so we are yet to see if she acts on the surface, but there is no reason to think why she won’t. I think she is overpriced at 25-1 in an 8-runner race, so is worth a little bit of each-way support.

Haatefina also makes her seasonal reappearance in the 7.50 at Windsor. She is a nice filly who was showing good progression last year until getting struck into in a race a Newbury. She was never at her best in a couple of runs after, so has had a decent winter break. She is straight-forward enough and if continuing in the same light as her early form last year, she wouldn’t be without an each-way squeak at 20-1 here. It is her first time over a mile, though I think it will suit her, especially at Windsor.

Although we are on the ‘cold list’ we have had a few knocking on the door. Hopefully our fortune will turn soon.

Just to let you know there are the last couple of shares available in Saxon House Racing for this season. It represents great value for money to go racing as an owner. For more information, see the Saxon House Racing tab.
