I have been training racehorses since 1983 and I am now based in Rowdown Stables, Upper Lambourn, a modern, purpose built, Yard with 30 Boxes with easy access to the superb Lambourn Gallops. We moved into Rowdown on the 1st January 2016 and you can see something of the excellent facilites we have here. My team and I work hard to do the best for our horses and to achieve success and enjoyment for our owners; I pride myself on high standards and attention to detail.
Visitors to the yard are always welcome! You can keep uptodate with the latest news from Rowdown by clicking this link and you can see our immediately upcoming Entries and running plans by clicking here and then selecting 'Entries'.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a look at how to be involved at Rowdown here; a variety of options for affordable racehorse ownership are available from as little as £50 per month. Mark and Mike are always happy to talk about individual horses and ownership & partnership opportunities.

The rationale behind the Nursery Partnership is to introduce new bloodstock into the Yard at a competitive price and the 2025 iteration is the fifth Nursery we have run here at Rowdown; the previous five partnerships were successful and the twelve previous horses we have purchased and run through it won fourteen races (including the smart sprinting filly Liberty Bay who won at Kempton and later won on the July Course and was placed at Goodwood and Ascot & the Multiple Winner Monks Mead who we have retained to race in 2025) and a number have been multiple placed.
For 2025 we have made a couple of changes to the structure of the Partnership; the rationale for this is that Monks Mead has been so consistent and competitive that we wanted to retain him to race as a four year old. To complement him we have purchased the two yearlings you can see below; both of them are by successful stallions and are out of viable Mares. I am pleased with both of them.
Twenty shares in the Nursery are available and each Share costs £3750; this covers all of the purchase costs and expenses to the 31st October 2025; by December 2025 all three yearlings will be sold either within or outside the Yard and a dividend paid out according to the total price they have achieved and the prizemoney they earn during 2025. Typically the last five Nurseries have produced an approximate dividend of 33%. Although the 2025 syndicate could return more or less than this it does show that the Nursery concept is a really cost effective way of being involved as an Owner; Racecourse Owneers Badges are available when the horses run and you are welcome to see them on the move on the Lambourn Downs virtually any day Monday through to Saturday.

An athletic individual out of a mare who
was a winner herself and has produced 2 winners rated in the 80’s his
sire, Outstrip, developing into a top class stallion, siring a Melbourne
cup winner.
Monks Mead made quite a slow start to his career on the track and didn't make all that much impact in three quite ordinary Maidens; but he showed the benefit of that experience by winning his first start in a Nursery, over seven furlongs at Lingfield at the end of July, winning decisively despite showing greeness alone in front until the opposition came at him in the last furlong; he then ran with credit in three Nurseries over sic, seven and eight furlongs, finishing second twice and being beaten no more than two lengths in the third. He got back into the Winner's Enclosure and rounded off a really satisfactory first season by winning an eight furlong Nursery at Chelmsford at the beginning of November under an excellent ride from Robert Havlin, who has a fine record for us.
As a three year old he ran eleven times being placed second or third on six of those starts going really close in three runs at Bath, being beaten a neck, a head and half a length; he showed real consistency throughout the Season.
The Nursery Partnership has retained him for his second season as a three year old and he will, the Yard is confidence, will continue to give a good account of himself in handicap in 2024; he is capable of further improvement from his current mark of 60.
We were really pleased to be able to buy this really quality colt, which was bred by Lady Whent, for 17000 Gns at Tattersalls in October; if you follow this link you can see him on the move as well as showing the quality of his confirmation. He comes from the family of the Champion Older Sprinter, Pipalong, and his pedigree is consistently about speed and pace and you can see this by following this link; he is a quality colt and we are delighted to have him in the Yard.

We are particularly pleased to have this half sister to two nice winning
horses who have raced for Rowdown, the consistent Mare Sid's Annie (the
winner of six races) and Bagatelle, in the Yard; she will complement
the two year old colt in our Nursery in the sense that she will likely
come into her own over further than sprint distances.
