A Busy Day at Nottingham, Newbury and Uttoxeter
Everyone was delighted to see Marmajuke Bay put his York run well into the background at Haydock yesterday; a video of his spiffing performance is here here A move up into a highend Handicap is now probably the right approach.
Four runners today at Nottingham and Newbury in the afternoon and at Uttoxeter this evening. Honourable Knight makes his third appearance of the Season after having a series of issues that had so restricted his career over the last three Seasons; this pm we are looking to him to take another step forward in his fitness and competitiveness in what will be a busy handicap with a large field.
At Newbury Bayston Hill and Born to Please run in the same twelve furlong Handicap; both are stepping up in trip and both ran well when they were first and fourth in a ten furlong Bath Handicap at the end of the last month. They might finish in the same order this pm, the hike in trip and the well earned rise in Bayston Hill’s mark making this difficult to predict, but the filly is well handicapped and will improve for what she achieved at Bath first time out after being free early and will have a no nonsense ride from Jimmy Quinn who has a long association with the Yard.
At Uttoxeter Bay Fortuna runs for the second time after quite a long interruption to his career;he ran with a degree of promise at Huntingdon at the end of April and he has had a series of potential engagements since the end of May aborted due to the ground; in the case of going off favourite at Newton Abbot a week last Monday by a mega downpour within three hours of his race. He should be competitive this evening and he goes to Staffordshire with a decent chance.
We are also looking forward to running Rainbow Jazz in the first race at Goodwood tomorrow evening; we muchly hope he is a nice horse in the making.
