Yesterday was something of a happy day for Rowdown and our people; Honourable Knight, and who we bought as a foal to grow up in the paddocks above Saxon House with Littlecote Lady and who has won nine races for us, ran a splendid race on his third start back after a series of problems that go back three years. Well ridden by Paul Hannigan he led until the final furlong at Nottingham and then kept on well to be beaten just over a length, very heartening to see.
In the evening Bay Fortuna, on only his second start in almost two years, won the twenty furlong Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter decisively, powering clear from the second last under a really quality ride from David Crosse. He is a well handicapped horse who should be competitive in similar races on the sound Summer ground going forward.
Just by the by and continuing on a Summer National Hunt theme we were all delighted to see Verity Bourne’s home bred by Haafhd win a similar Hurdle over two miles at Fontwell for Ben Case; Dreamboat Annie, who Verity also bred, runs for us for the second time tomorrow evening in Lingfield’s Two Year Old Novice Median Auction.
At Newbury neither Bayston Hill nor Born to Please seemed to stay the twelve furlongs something that particularly applied to Born to Please who does need to settle better; going forward both will come back in trip.
This evening we introduce our nice Red Jazz colt, Rainbow Jazz, to the racecourse in Goodwood’s Novice Stakes, the first race on the card. He is a nice horse in the making who is likely to be progressively more effective as he goes up in trip;he will probably find things happening a little quickly for him in the first half of the race this evening but we will be looking for him to be going on in the second half of the race and he should have a nice future.
