Shamonix at Kempton Last Wednesday
Dear All,
Firstly I was very happy with Shamonix at Kempton on Wednesday. She has been off the track a while and with all her issues we haven’t trainer all that hard. She ran a very honest race and finished strongly. She finished 7th but only beat 4 lengths. She got a good ride by Jason Watson. He is very young and inexperienced but he judged the pace well and kept her in a good position all the way round. He thought she probably needs further which is what we have thought for a while. She wasn’t strong enough to cope with the distance as a 3 year old but she is now. She is still rated very low so it won’t be easy to go where we want with her. 10 furlongs around Kempton seems about right but we will enter her in all similar events, hoping she gets in one of them. It’s not impossible to see her going for the same races as Bird For Life but the races will have to divide for them to get in so they won’t have to run against each other.
Misu Pete didn’t like Southwell that much yesterday! I’m not sure it was the surface itself. It was a higher grade race than he’s used to and he couldn’t go the early pace. He got swallowed up by the field and once you get in the kickback it’s very hard to keep racing. It’s possible he could still do well there in a lower grade mile with a few less runners but it’s a long way to go; there are closer tracks he prefers. There isn’t a lot for him in the next month so we will give him a short break to freshen him up for the turf season. It will be nice to get him back to Salisbury and Windsor…or Ffos las!
We will be quite for the next few weeks.
Black Truffle could run at Chelmsford on the 2nd March.
Bird For Life is likely to run at Kempton on the 7th March.
There are a lot of possible races for Shamonix but we will have to see what we can get in.
Best wishes
Michael
