The String Back to Form
We were really pleased with the way both Chromium and Shufoog ran yesterday evening; witness the videos here and here.
Chromium gave the distinct impression that she would have been even closer than the length and the neck that she was beaten if the race had been over seven, a trip that her pedigree would indicate would be her optimum at two; she should be a decent force in Nursery's at this level over the rest of the Summer and into the Autumn.
If you haven't already seen it have a glance at Shufoog's run yesterday evening and how things panned out for her just over two out; it is difficult to know how much more the winner would have found if Shufoog and Ellie had got to her slightly earlier close home; and every time Amanda Perrett's Mare drops to last night's mark she wins but it was a really decent run from our Mare that was tinged with a hint of rubbish luck as the gap half closed.
We have pulled Misu Pete out of his Chepstow race despite the obvious attraction of running him off last Friday's mark; the lightening quick ground that will be there this evening will just not be good for him.
But Sellingallthetime does run in the 16 furlong handicap; not as young as he was and probably nearer the end of his career on the track than the beginning (and making his 63rd racecourse start this evening) he was rated 83 at his best and now runs, with pieces instead of a visor and with the excellent value that Isobel Francis' claim offers, off 39 in the saddle; and, just like Shufoog yesterday evening, if you forgive his last modest run at Bath at the beginning of the month when he both dwelt and the string as an entity was not running great, he has a decent competitive chance at the weights; and he has a real chance of outrunning the big prices currently available (such as 42/1 on the Exchanges) if he is back to the form he was in in early May.
We shan't have any runners over the weekend but at the mo the intention might be to run Bird to Love and Bird for Life at Windsor on Monday.
