Not too bad a day for the Club on Friday. First Bird for Life finished 3rd over the shorter trip of 14 furlongs. It was a very good run considering she’s gone up a long way in the weights and she only ran a couple of week previous. Her and Ellie were arguably a bit unlucky; drawn so wide they either had to go forward or backward. As we know well it’s not easy to get Bird forward so after a furlong Ellie dropped her out and as soon as she did the pace steadied dramatically. The race turned into a sprint 2 furlongs from home and they couldn’t make the ground up. Maybe we will have a crack at turf racing next, depending what races we can find.
Misu Pete went one better, he finished an agonisingly close 2nd. It was a great race; he and the winner drew a long way clear; just unfortunate they were in the same race. As they went so far clear the handicapper has been very harsh again. He went up 6lb on the all-weather. This is going to make things tough but he’s a tough horse.
I’m really not sure what went wrong with Miracle of Medinah at Newmarket. He travelled very well through the race and everything seemed right. But when it came time to do the business didn’t want to go through with it. Nothing has come to light since the race so we will put a line through it. Everyone is allowed an off day. We might give him a very short break to freshen him up before we go again. The important thing is there doesn’t appear to be much wrong with him.
We’ve entered Born To Please, Bird To Love and Misu Pete at Ffos Las next Tuesday, 13th August. Born and Pete have both got form around the track on soft ground, and I’m sure it will suit Bird To Love too. The way the forecast is looking we have a good chance of getting our ground so fingers crossed.
