Mark Usher Racing News

The Week Ahead

15 September 2019 Mark Usher Racing news

Island Jungle ran well, with just the wrong little bit of luck in running when he needed it as they turned in and then having to be switched inside over one out; probably, notwithstanding this, he didn't quite get home over the extended 13 furlongs and we will probably look to come back down to twelve with him; he is self evidently capable of winning a similar race off this mark and was bang there till inside the last furlong.

We take Royal Charmer, our Hallowed Crown Nursery gelding, to Kempton tomorrow evening for his racecourse debut; and Little Lady Luck runs for the third time for Rowdown in the Maiden Auction Stake on the same card.

Shufoog carries an entry in Sandown's ten furlong Fillies Handicap on Wednesday; in the corresponding race last year she was beaten just five lengths after coming strongly into contention over two out before finding the hill just a bit too severe close home; she is a stronger, more mature filly this year.

Bird to Love might go to Southwell on Thursday with a vu to establishing how she acts on the fibresand; there will be fair opportunities in Nottinghamshire over the Winter if she does. And Four Mile Bridge is another potentially well handicapped guy entered at Chelmsford on Thursday; running off nineteen pounds lower than his opening mark.

Finally we might introduce a Helmet homebred, Hellfire Kode, to the track at Newbury on Friday; like nearly all of our two year olds he will improve for what he achieves on Friday; he is closely related to a horse who was a top class performer in Norway over six and seven furlongs.
