MUR Club Update

01 April 2021 Mark Usher Racing Club news

We could possibly have some exciting news. We have struggled with Bird To Love's season problems and she is coming to the end of her career at 7 years old, so we decided to put her in foal! It is the one guaranteed way to keep her out of season and she can run for 120 days after covering before she goes off to have her foal. Some mares have been known to improve a little after being put in foal but we would just be happy for her to run her races. Last week she went to Cityscape who was a very good miler and has produced a number of good horses from relatively small crops. The idea of going to him is to put a bit of speed into the foal, most of his progeny win around a mile which is what we want. After she has had the foal she will go back to her owner but we will keep the foal. We will form a syndicate to keep the foal and hopefully one day see him or her in training. We will work out the finer details when we know for sure she is in foal.

In the meantime we want to get a few runs into the mare. The first opportunity may be at Wolverhampton this coming Saturday. She is entered in a mile and a half amateur race. I’m not sure if she will get a run but if she does Harriet Tucker will ride. It’s not a great quality race so she would have a chance. It would be nice to get her on the grass as much as possible but not until we get a bit of rain.

Also Miracle Of Medinah got a write up in the Racing Post, I’m not sure how, I thought he’d been long forgotten! They talk very lofty ambitions of Royal Ascot which is a bit over the top, we wouldn’t currently get in anything but he is training very well and we do hope to see him on the track again in late May/early June. The article is out on the Racing Post website and app, and I presume it will be in tomorrow’s paper.
