Winter AW Break
Just to say that the Winter AW break continues; no runners on the first day back, Wolverhampton Monday evening.
Two pieces of Industry News are that the
BHA has made a couple of senior managerial appointments; Lord Allen of
Kensington has been appointed as the Chair and Alan Switzer has been
appointed as the Chief Financial Officer; one hopes that, top of their
managerial list, is the perienial issue of prizemoney; you might recall
us touching on the level of prizemoney that Arlecchino's Gift was
running for at Southwell last week (about 30% of what he would get for a
similar race at Dundalk); which makes the financial profile of owning
even a consistent winning handicapper look like him something that even
Football Club owners might look askance at.
You can read both Lord Allen's and Alan Switzer's profile and their aims within the BHA by following this link; Mr Switzer's includes this so if you see him on the racecourse it would be good to ask him about it!
"He will also work closely with
racing’s key stakeholders on an industry-wide approach to the sport’s
long-term financial sustainability, which will include evaluating
existing funding models, establishing areas for greater collaboration
and identifying opportunities for future growth."
