Monks Mead at Leicester
Monks Mead goes to Leicester this evening
for their ten furlong Handicap; the first three things to say are that
he runs over ten for the ft, the furthest he has run over previously
being eight and a half; he has been eased another two pounds to 54 and
is now an even better handicapped horse compared to this time last
year; and he runs at Leicester for the ft. You have to forgive him his
last run at Lingfield to make him a winner this evening but he ran
better than the bare form might suggest on his comeback at Bath at the
beginning of April, getting short of room on the far rail before going
on in the last furlong. It is actually quite hard to predict how he
will run; if he gets home and he likes the Leicester turf better than
the Lingfield polytrack (and there is no reason to think he won't,
really) he should not be far away and only the top horse seems to have a
better theoretical chance at these weights; he was 25s and 28s last
night and those prices clearly understated his chance, especially down
to fourth, but those prices have gone and he is around 14s and 16s this
morning; this still represents a fair dabble against him taking
advantage of a seriously eased mark.
No runners tomorrow; Outreach and, as long as the ballot drops right, Almizan both go to Wolverhampton Monday evening.
