Shades of May & Grand echo at Chelmsford
Miss Chester will be sharper next time; she ran as though she didn't really get home over eleven furlongs and we will probably bring her back in trip; she travelled nicely for more than a mile yesterday.
I suppose we were slightly disappointed with Token Gesture's final finishing position; not that she didn't run respectably and well to be beaten just over two lengths; it certainly looked as though we might have done just a bit too much a bit too soon and certainly the pace over the first half of the race was fast enough; there will be another day.
Shades of May runs in the eight furlong Apprentice Handicap (4.55); he runs from eight pounds wrong going forward and comes back in trip to eight furlongs after that last run over ten; having said that he did stay on over seven furlongs in August and if you are prepared to drawa line thru his last run over ten and accept that he wasn't sharp enough to do himself justice on his return immediately before that we have something of a form chance; difficult to be confident but that form chance and from a reasonable draw makes the 33s and bigger look overpriced; he goes to Chelmsford not without a chance of being involved and to outrun those prices.
Grand Echo runs in the seven furlong Handicap (7.30) under Tyler, eased three pounds to 52 and back up to seven; he ran OK when fifth over five off 55 last month and in a seven runner Handicap he seems to have around five pounds to find with the favourite; his chance of being involved will probably turn on him getting home over the sixth and seven furlongs; but, just like SofM, he is overpriced at 66s to do that; he is not without a chance of being involved and two 50ew singles and a 50p ew double would pay about 1400 to one.
Arlecchino's Rex goes to Wolverhampton tomorrow evening.
