The Mark Usher Racing Club

I have been training racehorses for over thirty years and have been lucky to work in a sport that I love and am passionate about. The sport has changed significantly and I wanted to find new ways to enable more people to enjoy the fun and excitement of being involved in racehorses at an affordable price, as well as supporting my racing yard at Rowdown Stables and everyone in the team here.

It is for this reason that I set up the Mark Usher Racing Club; it represents an exciting opportunity for you to get involved without having the financial pressure of owning a race horse. For only £50 a month you can join the Club and start enjoying a host of benefits as well as supporting the yard.

Benefits to club members:

- Follow the Club horses at home and on the racecourse.

- A free owners badge each time the horse runs. Plus half price badges for family and friends.

- Organised days at the yard, a local stud and other related venues.

- Dedicated webpage which will be updated regularly to keep you informed of everything you want to know.

- Sponsor a race at a local racecourse. This will raise awareness for the Club and there are perks from the course including judging the best turned out.

Originally a £22k Tattersalls Book Two yearling in October 2018 Makyon was initially trained at Middleham by Mark Johnston; here he is winning the BB Foodservice Novice Auction Stake, six furlongs, Hamilton 6th June 2019 under Silvestre De Sousa on his second start for Kingsley Park; and on the strength of this he ran a really decent race in the 2019 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot beaten just under five lengths; rated 96 he won a second race, at Ayr, in July 2019 before finishing second in a Class Three Novice at Musselborough at the beginning of August 2019.

Things did not go quite so well in handicaps from Middleham as a three and four year old and we were able to buy him for our Racing Club at Goffs at Doncaster at the beginning of August 2021; he has had four runs for us showing that, off his current mark of 44, he is well capable of winning races; he is a horse who can take a serious hold and who needs to be ridden with both confidence and patience; off his current mark he is well capable of winning for our Club and he will give us a lot of fun and interest.
